INCREASED SUSCEPTIBILITY OF MICE INFECTED WITH MOUSE ADENOVIRUS TO ESCHERICHIA COLI-INDUCED PYELONEPHRITIS

Mouse adenovirus causes a persistent infection in the mouse kidney that produces extensive mononuclear cell infiltrates in cortex and medulla. Tubular necrosis, dilatation, and occasional collapse occur but no glomerular changes or periglomerular fibrosis have been observed. Acute and chronic adenov...

description Mouse adenovirus causes a persistent infection in the mouse kidney that produces extensive mononuclear cell infiltrates in cortex and medulla. Tubular necrosis, dilatation, and occasional collapse occur but no glomerular changes or periglomerular fibrosis have been observed. Acute and chronic adenovirus infection of the kidney predispose the kidney to develop acute pyelonephritis when the mouse is challenged by the intravenous or retrograde route with Escherichia coli.
