ON THE RATE OF OXYGEN CONSUMPTION BY FERTILIZED AND UNFERTILIZED EGGS : III. NEREIS LIMBATA
1. The rate of consumption of oxygen by unfertilized Nereis eggs is about 1.1 mm.(3) O(2) per hour per 10 mm.(3) eggs. 2. Following fertilization the rate increases to 135 per cent or 145 per cent of the prefertilization rate, and continues to increase for 2 hours (the duration of the measurements).
