CHEMICAL RESTORATION IN NITELLA : I. AMMONIA AND SOME OF ITS COMPOUNDS
The potassium effect in Nitella (the high P.D. observed in leading off from a spot in contact with 0.01 M KCl to one in contact with 0.01 M NaCl) and the irritability can be removed by placing cells in distilled water for 2 or 3 days. They can be restored by NH(3) or by NH(4)Cl. The potassium effect...

Sumario: | The potassium effect in Nitella (the high P.D. observed in leading off from a spot in contact with 0.01 M KCl to one in contact with 0.01 M NaCl) and the irritability can be removed by placing cells in distilled water for 2 or 3 days. They can be restored by NH(3) or by NH(4)Cl. The potassium effect can also be restored by tetraethyl ammonium chloride (no tests were made of its ability to restore irritability). |
