Sumario:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To identify and prioritise diseases which can be managed by an integrated care model. To develop an adequate methodology therefore. To develop a list of indicators for the design of integrated care models. To research and analyse international experience and evidence. METHODS: Identification and prioritisation of the diseases through means of a literature review, a questionnaire for health professionals and a workshop with scientific and professional experts. Cooperation between the Medical University Vienna and the Competence Centre Integrated Care of the Viennese Sickness Fund. RESULTS: A report with a priority list of diseases relevant for the Austrian health care system for which integrated care models should be developed over the next years. A role model for other health care systems wanting to develop a national priority list and strategy for integrated care models. CONCLUSIONS: Integrated Care is an adequate model to face the challenges of today's health care systems and can be utilised to restructure health care provision on a national level.
