description Fifty-one schizophrenic patients were randomly assigned to receive insight-oriented or supportive psychotherapy. After two years of treatment, their outcomes were compared on a broad range of measures. The results of the two therapies were, for the most part, similar. Some advantages for each were also seen in the sectors of outcome toward which the two treatments were focused. The supportive therapy group did better in areas of practical adaptation and the insight therapy group did better in areas of intrapsychic function.
