Sumario:The Cu(II) atom in the title complex, [CuCl(2)(C(12)H(9)IN(2))], has a square-planar coordination being N,N′-chelated by the Schiff base ligand, and by two Cl atoms. The geometry is distorted towards square pyramidal owing to a long Cu⋯Cl inter­action of 2.941 (1) Å. This results in the formation of a zigzag chain structure propagating in the c-axis direction.
