In the title compound, C(16)H(13)IO(2)S, the phenyl ring is rotated out of the benzofuran plane, as indicated by the dihedral angle of 32.56 (6)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by an I⋯O halogen inter­action [3.200 (2) Å].
