description | Antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effect of Hemidesmus indicus Linn.R.root. (HIR) was investigated in rats. Administration of HIR (40 mg/g body weight/day) for four weeks significantly decreased the serum cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acids and phospholipid. Four weeks treatment of diabetic rats with HIR (40 mg/g body weight/day) showed significant hypoglycemic effect. Results of the present study show that HIR has hypocholesterolemic and antidiabetic effects. |
