description OBJECTIVE: This article offers the author's opinions about some of the thoughts, words, and deeds of the profession's founder, Daniel David Palmer. DISCUSSION: Reviewing D.D. Palmer's writings is challenging because he was the discoverer and founder of a developing profession and therefore his thoughts and words were rapidly evolving. Statements made by Palmer without judicious consideration of context could easily be misunderstood. CONCLUSION: D.D. Palmer was individualistic and enigmatic. This commentary provides a look at the whole in an attempt to reveal the character and spirit of the founder.
