The complex was prepared by the reaction of nickel(II) nitrate with HAMA in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline in a 1:1:1 ratio. In the crystal, the complex mol­ecules and solvate water mol­ecules are associated via O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.
