In the cation, the N atom is protonated with sp (3)-hybridization and with a tetrahedral geometry. In the crystal, the anions are connected to the cations through two pairs of N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, generating a four-centred inversion dimer with an R (4) (2)(8) ring motif.
