Sumario: | OBJECTIVES: To investigate the age-related differences of erectile function and erectile hardness in erectile dysfunction (ED) patients. METHODS: The data is retrieved in the baseline database of a study on ED management which was performed in 46 urological clinics in China. The patients are stratified on the basis of every 10 years (yrs) old. The evaluation questionnaires of ED are the erectile function domain of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) and the Erection Hardness Score (EHS). The statistical analysis compares the scores of IIEF-EF and EHS in different age groups. RESULTS: The study enrolls 4,241 patients with ED aged 20-84 yrs (average 42.3±12.3 yrs), 55.6% patients are between 31-50 yrs old. In the patients aged >30 yrs, with the increase of age, both the scores of IIEF-EF and EHS tend to decrease. Both the decreases of erectile function and erectile hardness are statistically significant between the patients aged more or less than 50 yrs, and are even worse in the patients aged over 60 yrs. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that for the men younger than 50 yrs old, prevention and treatment of ED and its related risk factors are essential; while for the men over 50 yrs old, the treatment of ED and its comorbidities are necessary and encouraging. |
