Sumario: | Cancers of the stomach and gastro-esophageal junction represent a significant challenge in oncology. Despite some recent advances in genetic categorization and the development of novel agents, outcomes remain poor. The vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 monoclonal antibody ramucirumab is the first targeted therapy to improve survival in a molecularly unselected population, and represents a valuable new treatment option. This review describes the current treatment landscape for advanced disease, evaluates existing and ongoing research into ramucirumab, and discusses its current and potential future therapeutic role. |
