Sumario:Professor Geoffrey Burnstock is a neuroscientist and he received his PhD Degree from University College London. He is President of the Autonomic Neuroscience Centre, University College Medical School. His work has been recognised by various honours, such as ‘Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digestive Sciences’ a 2000 Janssen Award in Gastroenterology’, Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and Surgeons (FRCS), Fellow of the Royal Society and Royal Society Royal Gold Medal. In his most recent work, the emphasis has been on translational research together with clinicians and industry to examine the pathophysiology and therapeutic potential of purinergic drugs for the treatment of disease, including pain, cystic fibrosis, arthritis, neurodegenerative diseases, atherosclerosis, chronic cough, gut, bladder, kidney and bone disorders and cancer. He has published over 1300 papers, 75 invited reviews, 114 book chapters and 15 books, including a 15 Volume Edited Book Series on the Autonomic Nervous System; He was top of International Citations for Pharmacology and Toxicology over 11 years, 1994-2006 (Thompson Incites); cited over 95,700 times with an h-index of 137.
