The topic on non‐coding RNAs, including microRNAs, long non‐coding RNAs, and circular RNAs, is such a field. In this short review, we will discuss the latest developments about non‐coding RNAs in cardiovascular disease. MicroRNAs are short regulatory non‐coding endogenous RNA species that are involved in virtually all cellular processes. Long non‐coding RNAs also regulate gene and protein levels; however, by much more complicated and diverse mechanisms. In general, non‐coding RNAs have been shown to be of great value as therapeutic targets in adverse cardiac remodelling and also as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for heart failure. In the future, non‐coding RNA‐based therapeutics are likely to enter the clinical reality offering a new treatment approach of heart failure. |
