Sumario:The calculation of ideal gas thermodynamic properties for steam to 10,000 K is examined. Centrifugal effects are included using spectroscopic data for the lowest vibrational levels, with extension to higher bending levels based on estimates from a bending model. Modifications are examined for rotational and vibrational cut-off effects. Uncertainties in obtaining a suitably regularized representation of energy versus bond stretching vibration in approaching the dissociation energy region appear relevant to the reliability of the extrapolation.
