Crystal structure of catena-poly[silver(I)-μ-l-valinato-κ(2) N:O]

The reaction of Ag(2)O with l-valine (l-Hval, C(5)H(11)NO(2)) in a 1:2 molar ratio in water, followed by vapour diffusion, afforded a coordination polymer of the title compound, [Ag(C(5)H(10)NO(2))](n), with N—Ag—O repeat units, which is classified as a type III silver(I) complex with amino acid lig...

description The reaction of Ag(2)O with l-valine (l-Hval, C(5)H(11)NO(2)) in a 1:2 molar ratio in water, followed by vapour diffusion, afforded a coordination polymer of the title compound, [Ag(C(5)H(10)NO(2))](n), with N—Ag—O repeat units, which is classified as a type III silver(I) complex with amino acid ligands. The asymmetric unit consists of two independent units of [Ag(l-val)]. In the crystal, the polymeric chains run along [101], and neighbouring chains are linked via a weak Ag⋯Ag interaction and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The title complex exhibited antimicrobial activity against selected bacteria (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcous aureus and Psedomonas aeruginosa).
