Use of MitraClip for Postmyocardial Infarction Mitral Regurgitation Secondary to Papillary Muscle Dysfunction

Papillary muscle rupture after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a dreadful complication and it is associated with five percent of deaths following AMI. Surgery is the recommended treatment of choice; however, it is usually deferred due to the high risk of mortality. MitraClip implantation using...

description Papillary muscle rupture after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a dreadful complication and it is associated with five percent of deaths following AMI. Surgery is the recommended treatment of choice; however, it is usually deferred due to the high risk of mortality. MitraClip implantation using a transcatheter approach is an alternative option for patients with severe mitral regurgitation (MR) following AMI or those with high operative risk. We report a case of a 68-year-old male patient who developed severe MR secondary to AMI and underwent successful mitral valve repair using the MitraClip device.
