description A subtrochanteric fracture of the femur accompanying pre-existing osteoarthritis of the ipsilateral hip is rare. We report a successful case of intramedullary fixation performed in the lateral decubitus position and discuss the importance of avoiding varus and the superiority of the lateral position in surgery.
