description Although hyperparathyroidism has been reported to cause acute pancreatitis, little is known about the mechanism involved. This study describes the case of an 86-year-old woman with acute pancreatitis and consciousness disturbance caused by hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia, respectively. The consciousness disturbance caused by severe hypercalcemia probably masked the typical symptoms associated with pancreatitis because she did not report abdominal pain during the clinical course.
