Extraction and Characterization of Chitin from the Beetle Holotrichia parallela Motschulsky

Insect chitin was isolated from adult Holotrichia parallela by treatment with 1 M HCl and 1 M NaOH, following by 1% potassium permanganate solution for decolorization.
