Manual red cell exchange transfusion to avert sickle cell related complications

Sickle cell-beta thalassemia is a double heterozygous state. Red cell exchange (RCE) transfusion reduces the concentration of sickle cells without increasing the hematocrit or whole-blood viscosity.
