description Abstract. Montiphylax, a new genus within the Limnephilidae, is proposed to include Philocascaalba, P.antennata, and P.thor. Characters for the adults and larvae are presented to separate Montiphylax from Philocasca. A summary of the distribution and life history of the Montiphylax species is provided. A key to ease separation of the known North American caddisfly larvae with gill clusters of single filaments is given.
