Sumario:Febrile neutropenia is a common complication in patients with hematologic malignancies receiving chemotherapy, and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria represent a therapeutic challenge in this high-risk patient population, since inadequate initial empirical antibiotic treatment can seriously compromise prognosis. Besides, reducing antimicrobial exposure is a cornerstone in the fight against resistance.
