Sumario: | Newborn screening (NBS) for severe T and/or B cell lymphopenia to identify neonates with severe combined immunodeficiencies (SCID) or agammaglobulinemia rapidly after birth has paved its way into clinical practice. Debate exists on the concept and strategy for rapid verification and stratification of the cellular immune status of positively screened infants. We provide impulses for harmonization of flow cytometric approaches to allow rapid integration in the growing number of immunological laboratories involved in follow-up and subdivision of SCID and non-SCID entities. |
