The multifaceted role of CARD9 in inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves a dysregulated immune response to the gut microbiota. Emerging evidence has demonstrated that dysfunctions in caspase recruitment domain‐containing protein 9 (CARD9) may contribute to the pathogenesis of IBD. Interestingly, an allelic series of Card9 variant...

description Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves a dysregulated immune response to the gut microbiota. Emerging evidence has demonstrated that dysfunctions in caspase recruitment domain‐containing protein 9 (CARD9) may contribute to the pathogenesis of IBD. Interestingly, an allelic series of Card9 variants have both a common predisposing and rare protective function in IBD patients. In this review, we provide mechanistic insights into the role of the CARD9 adaptor molecule in intestinal inflammation and determine a potential CARD9‐targeting therapeutic approach against IBD.
