Sumario:BACKGROUND: Curcumin is a major component in curcuminoid which acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. Curcumin affects several biological markers that are thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia such as IL-10 and COX-2, resulting in an improvement in pregnant women with preeclampsia. AIM: To see the effect of perioperative curcumin administration on IL-10 and COX-2 in preeclamptic patients undergoing caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia. METHODS: This study was a double-blind, randomised clinical trial conducted at Pirngadi Hospital, USU Hospital and Sundari General Hospital Medan as a hospital network of Faculty of Medicine, North Sumatra University. Group 1 received a drug containing curcumin (as a treatment), and another group received a placebo (as a control). RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the median values of COX-2 and IL-10 before and after treatment and also the p-values were greater than 0.05 in both groups (control and treatment). CONCLUSION: There is no significant difference between the use of curcumin on serum COX-2 and IL-10 levels.
