Sumario:Optical imaging at high spatial and temporal resolution is important to understand brain function. We demonstrate an adaptive femtosecond excitation source that only illuminates the region of interest. We show that the source reduces the power requirement for two- or three-photon imaging of brain activity in awake mice by more than 30 times. The adaptive excitation source represents a new direction in the development of high speed imaging systems.
