Sumario:General intestinal protection mechanisms and pathogenic mechanisms of diarrhea are provided as a means to explain selection of sites for diagnostic sampling. Five common enteric pathogens of neonatal pigs are covered in depth, including colibacillosis, transmissible gastroenteritis, rotavirus, Clostridium perfringens, and coccidiosis. Tables are provided for clinical differential diagnosis, as well as diagnostic sampling. Additionally, general treatment, vaccination, and management protocols are presented.
