description Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a cluster of RNAs with more than 200 nucleotides in length, which lack protein-coding capacity. They are important regulators of numerous cellular processes, including gene transcription, translation, and posttranslational modification, especially in tumor initiation and progression. Aberrant expression of lncRNA bladder cancer–associated transcript 1 (BLACAT1) has been reported in various human cancers and was usually associated with unfavorable prognosis. Previous studies have revealed that dysregulation of BLACAT1 could promote the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells. In this review, we summarize the present understanding of the functions and underlying mechanisms of BLACAT1 in the occurrence and development of various human cancers and discuss the roles of this lncRNA in cancers, including its promising application as a prognostic biomarker or a novel therapeutic target for malignancies.
