description In our private and working life, we are surrounded by technologies and interact with them on a daily basis. The smartphone is our constant companion, helpful digital household aids such as vacuum robots are present in every household and most of us have already tried to communicate with chatbots. The industry is also increasingly using technology to build large objects such as vehicles using robots. Thus, industrial and service robots are becoming more and more important. Robotics is an extremely broad topic. Therefore, this contribution introduces the term robotics from the perspective of information systems, deals with the different types of robots and describes the robotic process automation, which is used especially in information systems. This article closes with a discussion about the potentials of robotics.
