description [Image: see text] Waterborne acrylic resin is a kind of environmental protection resin, which is widely used in coatings, bridges, ships, and locomotives. In order to be better used in various fields, modification of waterborne acrylic resin has attracted much attention. In this paper, we introduce the method to synthesize waterborne acrylic resins, the composition of the resin, and basic properties of each monomer. According to the requirements of different properties of the resin, the modification mechanism and methods of the resin are discussed, including thermal performance, corrosion resistance, mechanical property, and water resistance. The applications of waterborne acrylic resin in the construction, automobile, metal anticorrosion, and furniture industries are discussed with detailed examples. Finally, the prospect of waterborne acrylic resin is proposed.
