Innate lymphoid cells (ILC) in SARS-CoV-2 infection()

Innate Lymphoid Cells (ILCs) are a class of innate immune cells that form the first line of defense against internal or external abiotic and biotic challenges in the mammalian hosts. As they reside in both the lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues, they are involved in clearing the pathogens through dir...

description Innate Lymphoid Cells (ILCs) are a class of innate immune cells that form the first line of defense against internal or external abiotic and biotic challenges in the mammalian hosts. As they reside in both the lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues, they are involved in clearing the pathogens through direct killing or by secretion of cytokines that modulate the adaptive immune responses. There is burgeoning evidence that these cells are important in clearing viral infections; therefore, it is critical to understand their role in the resolution or exacerbation of the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). In this review, we summarize the recent findings related to ILCs in response to SARS-CoV-2 infections.

The COVID-19 resource centre is hosted on Elsevier Connect, the company's public news and information website. Elsevier hereby grants permission to make all its COVID-19-related research that is available on the COVID-19 resource centre - including this research content - immediately available in PubMed Central and other publicly funded repositories, such as the WHO COVID database with rights for unrestricted research re-use and analyses in any form or by any means with acknowledgement of the original source. These permissions are granted for free by Elsevier for as long as the COVID-19 resource centre remains active.
