Sumario: | Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal disease endemic to the southwestern United States and other areas in the Western Hemisphere. Infection is usually acquired through inhalation. While infection is most often asymptomatic, early respiratory illness and infrequently extrapulmonary dissemination may occur. Immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with impaired cell-mediated immunity, are at greatest risk for dissemination. We present an atypical case of disseminated coccidioidomycosis in an immunocompetent male manifesting as peritoneal disease diagnosed during elective inguinal herniorrhaphy. |
