Sumario:Overweight and obesity can have serious consequences that are a major public health problem, such as e.g. type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. According to recent reports, gut microbiota may play an important role in the “epidemic” of obesity. The fact that intestinal microbiota may influence body weight, insulin sensitivity or glucose and lipid metabolism has led to the hypothesis that these changes may contribute to the pathogenesis of obesity and metabolic syndrome.
