Sumario:The precise coordination of neuronal activity is critical for optimal brain function. When such coordination fails, this can lead to dire consequences. In this review, I will present evidence that in epilepsy, failed coordination leads not only to seizures but also to alterations of the rhythmical patterns observed in the electroencephalogram and cognitive deficits. Restoring the dynamic coordination of epileptic networks could therefore both improve seizures and cognitive outcomes.
