description | Wearing a mask has become compulsory for the public as soon as they leave their home. Also and often for socio-economic reasons, homemade fabric manufacturing is allowed. However, around this obligation to wear a mask, there are currently many knowledge-gaps about the production and servicing processes of these masks. Confronted by these numerous uncertainties, the French society of Disaster Medicine has entrusted the Institute for Risk Management with the scientific leadership of a project to address those gaps. It will consist in characterizing the performance criteria of these masks that can be produced at home: appropriate choices of shape, i.e., designs, and types of fabrics, breathability, microbiology, clogging, congruence, fit test, washing process, use, servicing, storage, etc. The objective is to strengthen public confidence in their feeling of protection by this type of mask against COVID-19 through the development of a relevant, rigorous and replicable evaluation methodology. |
