description A 43-year-old healthy female with no significant medical problems except for recently diagnosed pelvic inflammatory disease presented to our hospital with acute onset, severe head and neck pain. Brain imaging revealed a rim-enhancing lesion consistent with an abscess. The patient underwent successful surgical removal of the abscess and its capsule. Intraoperative cultures grew Streptococcus intermedius and she was discharged with a plan for four weeks of intravenous ceftriaxone.
