Sumario:Background: Dyslipidaemia is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease in diabetes mellitus. There is paucity of data on lipid profile pattern in Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) from our ethnicity. Aims and Objectives: To determine the prevalence and patterns of dyslipidaemia in T2DM. Results: A Retrospective study of lipid profile pattern of 476 T2DM patients (men-282, women-197) was performed. The Mean age was 55.6+10.7 years with mean HbA1Cof 9.17+2.07. Sixty percent had BMI>25 kg/m(2). The Prevalence of dyslipidaemia was 93.5% (97% in women and 91% in men). Hypertriglyceridemia was seen in 61.5%, decreased HDL-C in 65.6% and increased LDL-C in 69.9%. Isolated raised LDL, Low HDL and raised TG was seen in 18.1%, 13.6% and 2.7% respectively. Mixed Dyslipidemia (Raised TG, Low HDL and high LDL) was seen in 13.6%. Increased LDL and decreased HDL was the most common combined dyslipidemia (15.4%) followed by Abnormal TG and LDL in 13.6% and Elevated TG with low HDL in 2.7%. Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of Dyslipidaemia with Two thirds of T2DM having abnormal lipid profile. Dyslipidaemia was more common in women as compared to men. Elevated LDL- C was the most common abnormality followed by decreased HDL-C and hypertriglyceridemia in our population.
