description Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important issue in women with PCOS. Aim and Objectives: Aim of the study was to compare the HRQoL between women with PCOS and its phenotypes and controls. Methods: This case-control study was done on 100 females with PCOS diagnosed as per Rotterdam's criteria and 150 controls. Patients were studied for clinical characteristics, biochemical and hormonal investigations and ultrasound scans. Women underwent completed health questionnaires, including the Short Form-12v2. Results: The mean age of the subjects with PCOS and controls was comparable 26.8±10.6 and 27.6±9.2 years, respectively. The phenotype D of PCOS was predominant form 47%, followed by phenotype C, A and B in 31%, 15% and 7%, respectively. The prevalence of impaired HRQoL was significantly higher in females with PCOS than controls (p=0.002). All women with PCOS presented lower scores in PCS compared to controls [mean (95%CI): 52.6 (51.2–54.7) vs. 55.6 (54.1–57.2); p=0.031], as well as lower scores for three out of the eight scales (p-values <0.05). Significant difference was observed for the MCS between PCOS and controls, but no correlation with PCOS phenotypes. Conclusion: We recommend that all females with PCOS should be screened for physical and mental well-being. HRQoL was significantly decreased in women with PCOS.
