Sumario:First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Disease Models & Mechanisms, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Karla G. Espinosa and Salma Geissah are co-first authors on ‘ Characterization of a novel zebrafish model of SPEG-related centronuclear myopathy’, published in DMM. Karla completed the research described in this article while an MSc student in the lab of Dr James J. Dowling at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, investigating the molecular mechanisms behind cardiac and skeletal muscle contraction. Salma is an MSc student in the lab of Dr James J. Dowling at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, investigating the molecular biology of muscle disease, how muscles function and the dynamic processes involved.
