Sumario:INTRODUCTION: Borderline personality disorder is traditionally considered as a chronically disabling condition with a poor prognosis. However, several prospective, long term follow up studies have found that most patients with BPD experience a remission from the disorder ,and only a few experience a full recovery over the course of their lives rarely. These studies indicate that symptoms of BPD wax and wane over time, although more acute, behavioural symptoms of the disorder tend to remit rapidly and recur rarely. AIM: To assess the pattern of symptoms remission in the BPDpatients during follow up. METHODOLOGY: It was a hospital based descriptive study conducted at the institute of mental health-Chennai.10 cases of BPD were included in the study that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After taking ,informed consent we applied semi structured proforma for sociodemographic variables.Diagnosis was made as per DSM-5 criteria.Patterns of their symptoms remission were assessed during their follow up visits. The findings were statistically evaluated using appropriate statistical tests.
