description INTRODUCTION: Cognitive impairment in geriatric population often remains undiagnosed until progressed enough to cause interruptions in activities of daily living. Handwriting by serving as a biomarker of brain’s cognitive capacity can aid in faster diagnosis of cognitive impairment AIM AND METHODOLOGY: To study handwriting parameters collected using Livescribe Echo Smart Pen in two different languages on two different occasions and compare them with scores obtained on good standard neuropsychological tests in an analytical case control study. Handwritten parameters differentiating cognitive scores of both groups were identified RESULTS: Significant differences among case and controls was observed in mean scores of parameters time of task (262.5 and 203.7 sec), text height (124.9 and 100.2 mm), number of pen strokes (136 and 148), writing speed (10 and 13 words per minute) respectively CONCLUSION: Inclusion of quantitative handwriting analysis in neuropsychological assessment can be a step forward towards a simple, faster diagnosis of geriatric cognitive dysfunction.
