Sumario: | BACKGROUND:-: A seizure is defined as a transient, involuntary alteration of consciousness, behaviour, motor activity, sensation, or autonomic function caused by an excessive rate and hypersynchrony of discharges from a group of cerebral neurons. Seizures are the most common paediatric neurologic disorder, with 4% to 10% of children suffering at least one seizure in the first 16 years of life. Children with epilepsy are almost five times more likely to have psychiatric problems than the general population . Behavioural disturbances are also more frequent in people with epilepsy than in individuals who do not have epilepsy. Behavioural disturbance is observed more frequently in people with drug-resistant epilepsy, frequent seizures with associated neurological or mental abnormalities. Behavioural disorders may precede, occur with, or follow a diagnosis of epilepsy. Predictors of behavioural disorders in children with epilepsy are the epilepsy itself, treatment, the underlying lesion, and personal reactions to epilepsy. Presenting a case of 7 year old female child with seizure disorder with frequent episodes of behavioural disturbances that included events like jumping ,crying ,hair pulling and vocalisation followed by unconsciousness. These behavioural disturbances were in frequency of three to four times a day since 2-3 months. EEG brain showed intermittent repetitive sharp and high amplitude waves which are generalised manner that reflects ongoing ictogenic discharges secondary to underlying cause. No brain parenchymal abnormality was detected in MRI Brain. RESULT :-: In this case we hypothesise that seizure episodes occurring in the child are associated to behavioural disturbances. |
