Sumario: | Gender Dysphoria GD is defined as a ‘’marked incongruence between their experienced or expressed gender and the one they were assigned at birth’’.It was previously termed ‘’gender identity disorder’’. Herewith we are reporting a rare case report on gender dysphoria. CASE REPORT- A 26yr old male was referred to us from urologist as he eperienced his desire to undergo sex reassignment surgery.on enquiry it was found that he was feeling uncomfortable about his male gender since the age of around 10years.he used to dress up frequently in female clothesand was more intrested in doing household work like cleaning,cooking etc.At the age of around 15 years when he developed masculine characters,he became very uncomfortable about it.He started shaving 2 to 3 times a day in order to keep his face clean and he would also put makeup to appear as a female.Due to his feminine behaviour and desire to change his sex,his family members disowned and deserted him.On examination the patient appeared like a girl phenotypically, but genotypically he is male.There were no abnormalities as far as his external genetalia were concerned.Inspite of immense disaproval from his family members,he insisted that he would undergo the surgery.yhis case is identified as gender dysphoria/male-- female CONCLUSION- Diagnosis of gender dysphoria was created to help people get accessto treatment and healthcare. People who have gender dysphoria face discrimination.Access to health services can be difficult due to fear of stigma,lack of experienced providers.Treatment options include changes in gender expression and role,hormone therapy,surgery and behavior therapy. |
