Sumario: | INTRODUCTION: Schizophrenia patients have 40-50% higher mortality due to cardiovascular diseases. Proxy inflammatory markers like leucocyte count, monocyte- and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and hemodynamic parameters like blood pressure/pulse pressure (PP), mean arterial pressure, rate pressure product can be predictors/risk factors of cardiovascular disease. OBJECTIVES: To compare inflammatory markers like WBC count, Neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), Monocyte lymphocyte ratio (MLR) and hemodynamic parameters like pulse pressure (PP) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) in patients with first episode and multi episode psychosis. METHODS: It was a cross-sectional study by retrospective chart review of 2 years (2018-2019). We included total of 69 multi-episode and 55 first episode psychosis patients. Apart from demographic data, hemodynamic parameters (PP, MAP) and proxy inflammatory markers (WBC count, ANC, NLR, MLR etc) were noted from the records. RESULTS: We found out that FEP and MEP group differed significantly with respect to monocyte, eosinophil count and monocyte lymphocyte ratio. Total leucocytes, eosinophils, Platelet count were positively co-related with SBP, DBP, MAP, PP, RPP (Rate Pressure product) in MEP, and monocytes, MLR were positively correlated with SBP, PP, Body weight. CONCLUSION: Early identification of proxy markers can reduce mortality due to cardiovascular disease in patients with psychosis. |
