Sumario: | BACKGROUND: Psychiatric morbidities though seen frequently in patients with psoriasis have often been missed or ignored. Nonetheless presence of such morbidities often results in poorer quality of life . AIM: To study psychiatric morbidities and its impact on quality of life in patients with psoriasis. METHODS: The study was a hospital based cross sectional study conducted among 54 patients selected randomly from the Dermatology Department, Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, from June 2020 to May 2021(1 year)after obtaining clearance from the Institution Ethics Committee. RESULTS: Out of total 54 patients of psoriasis, 61% had psychiatric morbidities most common being depression. The psychological domain of quality of life is most affected(38.12±6.67 vs 48.76±6.21) and environmental domain is least affected(56.67±10.65 vs 64.67±8.18) in both the groups of psoriasis with and without psychiatric morbidities. Each domain of quality of life has lower score in patients with psoriasis with psychiatric morbidities as compared to without psychiatric morbidities having p value <0.05. CONCLUSION: The result is of particular interest stressing the need for psychiatric evaluation of psoriasis patients. Timely intervention of psychiatric morbidity will improve the patient’s condition and so the quality of life. |
