Sumario: | Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. Studies have shown that TBI is associated with numerous neurological and psychiatric conditions including mild cognitive impairment, dementia, depression, and bipolar disorder. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is a safe Non-invasive brain stimulation technique studied in various psychiatric disorders. Alterations in neuroplasticity characterize TBI. tDCS may facilitate clinical recovery through functional and structural neuronal changes, hence can be used in cognitive rehabilitation. Studies have shown encouraging results in cognitive functions and motor recovery in TBI patients through stimulation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and motor cortex, respectively. |
