Similarities in demographic clinical profiles in siblings with specific mental illness-case series

INTRODUCTION: The genetic basis of mental illness is now well established.A convenient means to observe this finding is by comparing clinical features of affected siblings&family members with a mental illness.If a familial resemblance for clinical features is shown to occur,this would suggest that constitutional factors influence the vulnerability to develop mental illness. AIM: To evaluate the similarities in demographic clinical profiles in siblings with specific mental illness. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive study done on the siblings with mental illness at Institute of mental health,Chennai.The sociodemgraphic profile including the age at onset of illness,disease characteristics,family history of psychiatric illness,psychometric finding,treatment details will be collected. The data will be analysed using SPSS -16software. OUTCOME MEASURES: Helps in better understanding the degree of similaity among sibling with specific mental illness across various diagnoses.
