description | Text: AIMS & OBJECTIVES: Presentation of an uncommon disorder of Mirtazapine Aggravates Restless Leg Syndrome METHOD: A case report. RESULTS: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sensori-motor disorder that interferes with the sleep of the sufferers. This syndrome is characterized by four major symptoms including urge to move legs which is more in the evening and night, this urge is usually relieved by movement and increased by rest.Disruption in dopamine transmission in brain is hypothesized for this problem as it frequently responds to dopaminergic therapy.RLS has been found to be associated with depression in clinical sample as well as epidemiological studies.Dopamine is implicated in the causation of depression and treatment of RLS is thought to improve depressive symptoms in RLS patients.Mirtazapine sometimes aggravates the sing and symptom of RLS,on the other hand RLS is one of the side effect of mirtazapine. CONCLUSION: Proper history of the patient is mandatory to diagnose the case. Mirtazapine may aggravate the restless leg syndrome. Before going to prescrib mirtazapine we have to rule out RLS. |
